Over the last couple of years, a number of Chinese OEMs have set up shop in other regions around the world. While a few like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Realme, and Huawei have seen immense success in doing so, most others weren’t able to leave a dent in the international markets. Among these is Guangdong-based Meizu, which has been missing from the Indian market since the launch of its last flagship — the Meizu M16th — towards the end of 2018. While the company might not have as strong of a presence in India anymore, it’s still launching new smartphones in its home market.
Last year, the company launched a couple of interesting devices in China, including the Snapdragon 855-powered flagship Meizu 16s and the mid-range Meizu Note 9. It also ran a crowdfunding campaign for an innovative portless smartphone called the Meizu Zero which, unfortunately, didn’t see the light of day. Unperturbed by the setbacks, the company is now prepping up to launch its flagship for 2020 — the Meizu 17. In a recent post on Weibo, the company has revealed that the Meizu 17 will be launched in China on May 8th and has shared an official render of the upcoming device that shows off its design.
As you can see in the official render above, the Meizu 17 will feature a quad-camera setup on the back arranged in a horizontal array with an LED flash ring right in the center. Over on the front, the device has a flat display with rounded corners, minimal bezels on the sides, and a single hole-punch display for the selfie camera. The render also suggests that the device will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner and support face unlock as well. While the company has revealed no further details about its hardware specifications, we can safely assume that the Meizu 17 will pack in Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 chip and, thereby, feature 5G support. We expect Meizu to reveal more about the device in the days leading up to the launch and we’ll update this post as and when we learn more from the company.
