OnePlus has begun the rollout of Open Beta 4 of its OxygenOS 11 variant of Android for the OnePlus 8 series. It’s not a huge update unlike the previous Open Beta 3, but it does bring the latest Google Security Patches and a host of welcome bug fixes for the system. Security is now up to date to this month’s (November 2020) patch, something that many flagship phones can’t yet boast. There are ‘optimizations’ of several features, including in-call stability, system power consumption (which may squeeze a bit more juice out of the battery), the alarm screen UK, and the user experience of apps when working in split-screen.
Fixes to bugs include the issue of dropped frames when pulling down the status bar during gaming, occasional failure of NFC, a frustrating bug that stopped some Play Store downloads from installing, and a fix to the lag issues some were experiencing with MX Player.
The links below are beta releases, so only use them if you’re wanting to test the next release early. The stable build already contains all the new functionality including Always-On Display, better one-handed use, and stock Android 11 features like bubble notifications support, Device Controls from the power menu, and a Conversations section in notifications.
