Xiaomi details how the Mi 10 Ultra’s 50W wireless charging works

Chinese OEM Xiaomi recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with the launch of the Mi 10 Ultra — the company’s most powerful smartphone to date. As you’d expect, the device features top-of-the-line specifications, including Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 chip, up to 16GB of LPDRR5 RAM, up to 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage, an impressive 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, and more. But one of the most interesting things about the Mi 10 Ultra is its 50W fast wireless charging support, which can charge the 4,500mAh battery on the device in just 40 minutes.

If you’ve been wondering how Xiaomi managed to achieve such fast wireless charging speeds on the Mi 10 Ultra, we now have some answers from the company. In a recent post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the company has explained how its 50W fast wireless charging solution works. As per Sparrow News, Xiaomi’s 50W wireless charging solution makes use of a more efficient charging architecture which not only minimizes the architectural layers in the wireless charging process but also improves the conversion efficiency of the charging chip.

Unlike conventional 2:1 dual-layer charging schemes, the Mi 10 ultra makes use of a direct 4:2 single-layer charging structure that can reduce the energy loss during the charging process. By doing so, the company has optimized the pathway architecture on the charging link and reduced the variable voltage level, which effectively reduces energy loss and improves overall charging efficiency.

Along with the new charging architecture, the Mi 10 Ultra also utilizes a new charging pump which offers a conversion efficiency of 98.5%. The more efficient charging pump also reduces the heat generation during the charging process. Since the new pump can keep the charging temperature lower for a longer duration, the device is able to charge at a higher speed for more time, thereby reducing its charging time.

Furthermore, the Mi 10 Ultra also makes use of dual parallel charging, which reduces the impedance of the charging path. The dual parallel charging solution cuts down on heat loss, improving overall conversion, efficiency, and stability in the process. The device also makes use of a new dual-series butterfly battery with two 2,250mAh cells that helps to double the charging power with the same amount of current. The dual-cell butterfly battery also has a smaller protection circuit, compared to traditional side-by-side dual-series batteries, which allowed the company to fit a larger battery in the same volume. The battery makes use of a graphese-based conductor in the cathode, which further enhances its efficiency. But that’s not all.

The Mi 10 Ultra also includes a thicker and lower impedance dual FPC connection between the battery and the motherboard. This works with the components mentioned above to reduce energy loss and heat generation even further. The back of the protection circuit also includes a phase change heat storage material that is designed to keep the battery temperatures low and extend the duration of faster charging.

To ensure that the new wireless charging solution doesn’t cause any issues, Xiaomi has also included a multi-level variable current control technology on the Mi 10 Ultra. The technology includes features like cell voltage detection, real-time charging power control, and “step-less variable speed” charging. The charging coil on the Mi 10 Ultra has also received some improvements to ensure the best results. The coil utilizes a 5-layer nano-crystal and multi-strand winding technology, which makes the wireless charging field denser around the receiver coil and improves the transmission efficiency of the coil.

Thanks to Xiaomi, we now know what all goes into creating an effective fast wireless charging solution. If you’re interested in reading more about the wireless charging solution on the Mi 10 Ultra, you can head over to Xiaomi’s post by following the source link below.
