LineageOS is, by default, the first preference as a custom ROM for many Android enthusiasts. This is because LineageOS evolves from CyanogenMod, one of the oldest custom ROMs conceived shortly after the launch of Android. For several years, it had been the means to revitalize old phones, and LineageOS continues to serve longtime Android users in the same way. LineageOS 17.1 is the latest version of the Android 10-based custom OS that was announced earlier this year with improvements over LineageOS 17. LineageOS 17.1 has now been ported to some old devices including the veteran flagship killer — OnePlus One — along with the Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact from 2018, and last year’s F(x)tec Pro1.

OnePlus have evolved significantly from what they were in 2014 when they announced the OnePlus One. Launched with CyanogenMod based on Android KitKat 4.4.4 as the official operating system, OnePlus One received its final update OS upgrade to Android Marshmallow in 2016. Thanks to unofficial developments, the phone was earlier upgraded to Android 9 Pie, and can now run Android 10 with LineageOS 17.1 support.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 trio — including XZ2, XZ2 Compact, and XZ2 Premium —was launched in 2018 with Android Oreo 8.0. Sony has been tirelessly updating the devices and all three phones received the Android 10 updates in April 2020. While the official firmware comes with little customizations on top of stock Android. For users who want more control over the experience can try out LineageOS 17.1 on the XZ2 and the XZ2 Compact.

Lastly, the LineageOS team has also added support for the F(x)tec Pro1, a productivity-oriented device with a physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Although the phone was launched in 2019 with Android 9 Pie, we have no word on when the official Android update arrives. If the physical keyboard form factor in 2020 isn’t brazen enough, users can try out LineageOS 17.1 to enjoy features from Android 10.
