Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 with MediaTek Helio G85 SoC launched in India for ₹11,999 ($160)

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series is one of its best selling series worldwide, playing a pivotal role in the brand’s image and value perception. However, Xiaomi’s branding, re-branding, and staggered releases leave a lot of us confused, especially for this year. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in India back in March 2020. The Redmi Note 9 Pro then launched globally as the Redmi Note 9S in the same month. Then, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro globally in April 2020. Adding to the device confusion is the POCO M2 Pro which has a similar set of specifications and design, and even competes in some of the same markets as the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Now, Xiaomi is launching the Redmi Note 9 in India with the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC.

The Redmi Note 9 follows the familiar design as the rest of the lineup, which is alright considering that Xiaomi has been mixing things up since the past few years on this lineup. The most recognizable aspect of the Redmi Note 9 is the quad-camera setup on the back, which finds some company with the conventional fingerprint sensor. On the front, the 6.53″ punch-hole display demands all of your attention.

On the inside, you get the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, along with LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage. The device is also powered by a substantial 5020 mAh battery that supports fast wired charging at 22.5W through the USB Type-C port. Xiaomi is also including a fast charger in the box, which is a welcome move for the price range that the phone targets. The device also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, an IR blaster, and a microSD card slot for expansion (up to 128GB).
